Laurie Lus ("Ringo Starr")

Gear: Ludwig Fab Four drum kit, Paiste cymbals, Cobra kick pedal

Favorite Beatle Tunes: Almost anything from Rubber Soul; I like the "smootchy" songs as Sir Paul would say -- Do You Want To Know a Secret; Here, There and Everywhere... stuff like that. I'm a fan mostly of the early Beatles... didn't much get the White Album and the later stuff... but I'm starting to appreciate it more and more with this project!

Favorite Beatles memory(ies): Not many. I was pretty young when they were out. Although, my mom had the Rubber Soul album (yes, vinyl!) and I wore that thing out! I especially found Run For Your Life to be a dark, rowdy, disturbed piece in an intriguing sort of way. I really liked it!

Musical Influences: The Beatles' music influenced me in many ways throughout stages of my life. They were one of the groups from which I learned harmonies. Others included the Mamas and the Papas and the Everly Brothers. I was a HUGE Elvis fan. Also, 8-tracks and albums that I wore out over and over were Linda Ronstadt, Olivia Newton-John, the Carpenters, Dolly Parton (loved Jolene--liked those "disturbed" tunes), Charley Pride, Neil Diamond, Little Anthony & the Imperials, Amy Grant, Rich Mullins... quite a variety, yes?

Other: Some might ask if I think a girl in the band (what?! there's a GIRL in the band?!) takes away from the authenticity we're trying so hard to produce. I would say as long as we all stay true to the music, I don't think so. Can't change my gender, but can't change my love for the music, either! I've really learned a lot trying to catch Ringo's style and it's a challenge for me to keep as great a back-beat as he did - DOES! Speaking of authenticity.. when you catch an AZ Beats show, check out my Shea jacket pockets -- one is sewed on lower than the other -- just like Ringo's real Shea jacket! I love this stuff!!
